Round baler????

I"m new to rolling hay, have used a square baler quite a bit, never a round baler. ? is do you need to shut off the pto when you"ve tied off a bale and go to dump it? I"ve seen some folks do it both ways. I just bought a 8455 caseih and they haven"t sent the manual to me yet. Thanks for your input.

I don't shut the pto off when i'm dumping the bale, and i think it causes more wear on the pto and clutch shutting it off & on for each bale, than any "less wear" on the bealer for shutting it off while dumping.

Slowing the pto while wrapping will make the baler use a bit less twine, but i don't think the bales look quite as nice with less string on them.

Running the PTO helps kick the bale out - I usually only run it while ejecting the last partial bale that won't fall out on its own.

I don't see any reason why you need to shut off the pto. My New Idea 456 is a belt baler and leaving it running helps to dump the bale. I do slow the throttle while wrapping twine and discharging the bale, but I never shut off the pto.

I am not familar with that baler but, I would shut off the PTO when dumping. Atleast until you get the manual and find out.
