Massey Ferguson #32 Sickle Mower Question Take two

My MF #32 is getting closer to field ready. All the worn ledger plates have been replaced (what a job!), as have the broken rock guards. Every thing got a good shot of grease, which leads me to my question. The upper pully (the one that hooks to the PTO) has a grease fitting for the shaft, the the lower one (the one that drives the pitman) does not. I don't remeber reading anything about it in the book, but it seems like it would need to be lubed some how too? What do you guys do? I was thinking about pulling it and greasing it by hand, but do I really have to do that?

My #32 has 2 zerks there - one sticking straight out that goes through the center of the end of the shaft, and one at a 45 degree angle on the lower pulley itself. The 45 degree one actually greases the bearing. I'm not sure what the other one greases, but I fill it anyway. I think if you look carefully you will find that you are missing some zerks.

I just don't see those zerks on the bottom pulley. I see the ones that are on the top pulley but not the bottom. I don't even see them referenced in the manual. What do you mean by right out the shaft? Like straight out the back, the front? I must be missing something.

Thanks!

third party image

Hopefully this picture will work - the parts manual shows 1 zerk, 43, on an angle. However, "special bolt" 52 also has a zerk screwed into it on my mower.

OK, I see, we are taking about two differn't things. I do have the fittings for the shaft that pitman rides on, what I'm taking about is the shaft that the pitman pully rides on, part number 3 in your break down.

Thanks for the image, I can see a point where it will come in very handy!

Thanks again,

K

Bolt 52 is hollow - I think that the zerk on the end of it gets grease to where you are talking about. If I put too much in it, I get grease coming out the other side, so it must go through 3.

Thanks, that's just what I needed to know.

The bad news is that I was playing with the bottem pulley a night ago and it moved, so now I need to tear it down to see why it has some up and down play.

Yes, one points straight out the back. When I get home tonight I will look in my parts manual.

Used a number 42, or maybe it was a 41, for years and only greased the provided zerks and had no problems. That one must take care of its self???
