Anyone use a Disc Mower with their fast-hitch IH?

I'm thinking about getting one of those disc mowers next year, not a disc-bine, but one of those disc mowers that hang off your tractor like a sickle bar mower. Problem is, I have a Farmall 460 with the fast-hitch system, and can't afford to replace the tractor (wouldn't want to, anyway) just to get a true three-point hitch tractor. Has anyone ever used a disc mower with an adapter for the fast hitch? I know that 'adapting' usually leads to less-than-desirable performance, but I'd really like to get away from sickles. I have an adapter that I use with my post-hole digger; it's one of those inverted-"U" designs, and the third point is a bracket that bolts to the back of the tractor. Just wondering if anyone had ever done this and how it worked out.
Thanks,
- Jim H.

The disc mowers work better with a 3 point with draft sensing capabilities, especially if your field is a little rough. However, I have used them with a 3 point on which the draft sensing didn"t work, and it went OK- so it should work with 2 point adapted to 3 point.

I use a fort 8' disc mower on a farmall 544 with a fast hitch and 3 point arm adapters. The adapters had some play where they fit into the fast hitch sockets so I jammed some homemade shims in there and it worked great. So much better than a sicklebar now.

Used a Fella 5 ft. disc mower behind a 300 utility with fast hitch. It has the factory three point arm and top link bracket. Hyd. pump was to weak to lift the bar and blew a seal, 460 would probably handle it but not a 200 farmall. Alot more weight than a siclemower.

Can't comment directly on your problem, as I'm lusting after one of the disk mowers too. I do have a Farmall 200 equipped with a 2pt hitch. I got the conversion kit that has the two arms that slide into the 2pt, and a bracket that bolts to the rear of the tractor in place of the unused belt pulley. Use it on Deere 350 sickle bar mower, New Idea 3pt hitch hay rake, generic bush hog (Schultz?), posthole digger, carryall, middle buster, 2 bottom plow, MF disk. Works OK in most applications, and I'm thinking it will probably work with one of those new mowers. Really would like to try one out, as I just got off the tractor after three hours of trying to cut a bunch of downed, matted, overgrown hay - that I can't touch with a sicklebar, with the bush hog. What a drag!

Use one of the new disc-mower caddies it takes all the weight off the tractor. In fact you don't even need a three point!
