just attended the chautauqua county antique tractor and equiptment show where i purchased a homelite model 17 and a model 6-22 chainsaw pair. serial numbers are 490739 and 727090 respectively . had the bigger 6-22 firing on a puff of either in 10 minutes. any info on age or parts availability? oh yeah both are complete and missing nothing, combined cost $5.00

I have one of those as well. They sound great.
I also have the orginal book that came with them.
Mine was manufactured in 1957. I'm the second owner. It's a model #17.

I have a old blue homelite I would likre to get rid of if interested,also have the bigger yet orange one with the hollow bar

I worked at a factory branch of Homelite many moons ago. If memory serves, the Model 17 was built in the late 50"s/early 60"s. It was a gear-drive saw. Parts will be a bit of a challenge, but they made a lot of them, so used parts are still around. I think they used a Tillotson "HP" carb., which parts are extemely hard to find.

The 6-22 was made around the same time +/-.

Remember, these old girls require a much richer fuel/oil ratio, so check the fuel cap for mixing instructions. The 17 uses SAE 90 in the gearbox on the sprocket side.

Also, beware of kickback with these older saws. The bars have a large radius, with agressive chain and no chain brake. Be careful when working with the tip of the bar.
