We did this a few years ago and thought we were crazy but it worked. First off you want to order a couple dozen doughnuts and send them to the local police station EARLY on a sunday morning. Load the bin on a semi trailer and make sure to put a roller bar on the top so power lines wont catch. Have someone in front of you stop traffic and ask them to pull over so you can get through and you should be ok. Gooooo od luck we sure had fun

NY dairy; Doing a 30ft next week, did seven of them last summer. Still have 3 30ft bins on trailers yet. We use bins jacks and do it all ourselves, cranes are nicer but it will cost more than bin worth. A bin that size in my area is free, I did three on those four or five years ago. Last summer moved 24ft and 30 ft diameter units. Give me a call and I can step you throu prcess if that would help, have did that several times with others also. RickL 319-257-6764

Planter movers are a good start for a trailer; and no we never got caught. Be careful. Sunday EARLY AM is a good time.

I've moved about a half dozen of them, from 1200 to 5500 bu. Some on machine trailers, some on a special trailer I could rent. That one was built for moving bins, with a convertible bumper/gooseneck hitch, low slung frame of 3x8 steel tube laid flat, and removeable rear truck wheels. Frame had rollers underneath. Lift bin 6 inches, slide frame underneath on the rollers, replace the wheels. Had similar steel outriggers that slid out for side support. Some bins/roofs withstand the lifting with a crane and tire- some don't. I've split bins halfways up while on jacks, pulled the bottom half inside, lowered the top half down to the trailer, and taken the entire bin in one trip. (Bolt the inner circle to the outer temporarily). SCOUT THE ROUTE! Make sure of all clearances. Backed a 3200 a half mile for an alternate route after finding an electrical wire. Had a 2x4 mounted up and over and down the backside of the bin to clean wires off, but didn't notice that this service went across the road at such an angle, that it hit the NE area of the roof before the center, where the 2x4 was. It was drizzly that day and sparked.

It depends on how far the move and if height is an issue. If you have a small crane available, pick up the bin by attaching the cable, through the center top fill opening,to a truck tire and rim inside the bin. Lift the bin by centering the tire under the cone.set it on the trailer making sure it is cross-braced so it doesn't fold.If it is too high they can telescope by opening a couple vertical seams.I have had a lot of experience with gov't grain storage, and this works. Good Luck!
