Anybody haul hay on a 28' gooseneck? I pull it with a F350 diesel. How many small squares do you get on? My trailer is 6200#. Thanks

Joe: I always found hauling hay had more to do with distance and labour than anything else. If you are just hauling a short distance, it is not worth spending three hours putting on that big load. Distance is the governing factor.

Remember also if you start exceeding Gross Vehicle Ratings on you truck or trailer, you could be in for some trouble with DOT. Two items that will get you with them everytime is if it looks bad or if you become involved in an accident.

On the accident part, if your insurance company discovers and determines you are or were overweight, you could find they will not be footing the bill. (Loopholes)

Farmer I worked for used to stack them until we would just clear power lines and he had a 3/4 chevy 4x4 with a 350 we never had a problem with anything, so load it up and see what you can pull with out to much trouble.

We haul 210 on our 24" gn. 5 wide, 6 high, 7 deep. About all the weight I want in most fields. Handles good, doesn"t look overloaded or draw attention. Roy

On a 28' I normally get 20 rolls. Only used it a couple of times for squares, about 350 but I could get more on. Wondering, you mention the 6000# weight figure. Is that your empty trailer weight, gvwr, or what. I am assuming it is empty weight of the trailer as the one I use runs about that.

Thanks, for the reply. Yes the 6200# is my trailer. I have a Kaufman rated for 25,500# max. What do you pull your's with and how much weight do you pull? A load of 350 bales at 50# is 17,500#, that's a good load!!!

Don't forget to add the weight of the empty trailer, That puts the weight up to 23,700#. I don't know what your truck weighs, but you need to add that into the equation also.
