Brush hog gearbox replacement

Have an old Howze 5' bushhog that came with my 8N tractor. Was ancient when I got it, and I hoped it might last a year before I had to replace it, but it has been almost 6 years. But the gear box finally went, no teeth left standing inside.

Was pricing new hogs and really don't want to part with that kind of money. Keeping an eye out for used, too.

But if I could find a replacement gearbox, I'd probably get another "year" out of my old one. Is there a source anywhere for replacements? Or are they too expensive to even consider?

thanks for advice!

For Howse parts contact Clark McKenzie at 601-876-3092. I have a 10 ft Howse and have a good experience working with Clark. I didn't have all the teeth shucked but just a few chips. had my local professional welder build them up and grind back down. two years ago. But the fellas are probably right. You should be able to pick up a used 5 ft for 200-400 dollars.

it's doubtful that the price of a new gearbox for an old cutter would be worth it. better to just look for a good used cutter at farm sales or equipment auctions.
