I've had a 336 for 4 years. It usually takes about ten bales to get all the kinks worked out, then it bales consistently after that. It's probably not the baler's fault. I guess I need to do a better job of cleaning it before I put it away.

Ours came with a broken thrower, I think it is just the oil pickup screen. We are dropping on the ground right now.

Check the knotter over for play, if they get too worn out it won"t tie consistantly.

As for tractor size, the manual says 35 hp, it pulls so much easier than the MF224 we also use it isn"t funny. The MF says only 30 hp needed but it bogs our 52 hp tractor down on every stroke even at pto speed. The 336 isn"t hardly noticable.

Having both sitting in our equipment shed, the 336 chokes on big windrows, the feed auger stalls out when the packer can"t take it away fast enough. The MF 224 will swallow GIANT windrows to the point of shearing pins. The 224 is about 10-25% faster for us, but that savings is wasted on it breaking shear pins all the time and breaking other parts.

I much prefer the JD, it is reliable, easy to work on, and quiet.

As the windrow gets heavier or the driver gets faster the auger will lift up and up until it hits the stop. Then you'll see hay bunch up at the end while it waits for the forks to pack it in. If it gets even heavier, the auger stalls out and a huge pile of windrow piles up in front of the pickup and stalls the pickup out.

The windrows that give it troubles are the ones that are double raked with the 9 ft rake. First gear low range is too fast for those!
