I have a Ford 501 sicklebar mower and want to use it on my 3 year old New Holland TN 70 tractor. I've heard that some folks make conversion kits for this purpose (longer arms? wider clamps...) Help!!

You don't need those clamps on a tractor with arm stabilizers.Just take them off and fix something to attach the tension arm to, I use the hole in the lower end of the left lift rod. You will probably have to adjust the spring.

Just change your lower arms out with those for an 8N. I do it every year and only use them for the mower. It's pretty fast and much easier than converting anything on the 501--pretty inexpensive too!
