Robert - Go to TSC for routine maintenance parts like knives, pitman, etc. For the rest I recommend (in order) scrap parts, ebay, then as a last resort a JD dealer. You could easily go $500 in parts to fully redo a #5 thru the dealer and you won't get it back out. When you get a parts machine, try not to tear down a perfectly good mower. There are lots of worn out mowers around. As for a manual, they are around $25 at the dealer and less than $15 on ebay. You must have a manual in order to properly operate this machine. It needs maintenance. Finally, as for pictures....this guy has some really good ones: Link Just ignore the part about the JD-B, it takes a red tractor to run it right. (Just kidding, the B is a "cute" little tractor! :-))

JD dealer will have mauals. get the user and the parts manual. Most parts you can get from them also. Just beware and bring plenty of money. Example: outer wear shoe cost $45.
I purchased a parts machine this year for $50 and have already used $100 in parts of it.

I also pull my JD #5 with my 49 M. I put up 30 acres of hay with it every year and have not had any problems with it. I bought it for $50 and have only put a few sickle sections in and a couple of guards. If you keep it greased, gear box filled, and sickle sections sharp it will cut forever.
