Hesston hay equipment, any good?

Just bought a caseih 8455 4x6 baler, I know this baler was built by Hesston. My question is- is there anything inherently wrong with these balers? I haven't used this baler yet, but it is in super condition, practically like brand new {there's still paint on the sprocket teeth} for a very good price. The baler seems to be extremely simple in it's construction, has me wondering if the design is sound and will it roll a good solid bale under varying conditions?

I have a Hesston 5540 (?) 4'x5' baler. It does a good job and has been very reliable. Of course, the only thing that I have to compare it to was the Vicon soft-center baler that I had previously. The only thing that kept me from setting fire to the Vicon the last time I used it was a lack of matches in my pocket while in the hay field.

You can be guaranteed one thing that case is not made by HESSTON----it's made by agco, which makes the HESSTON line, NEW IDEA line and the CASE line but for the most part IT'S A HESSTON and make no doubt about it,if it's not red-- it doesn't belong in the hay field...

When Case and New Holland merged, the Hay and Forage Industries partnership (aka Hesston) was dissolved and AGCO is now sole owner. Current Case hay equipment is New Holland stuff in different decals and paint.

I know the new caseih balers are made by new holland, this baler is a '92 model made by hesston for caseih.

The baler is in perfect condition, the only thing I'm worried about is starting a bale, this baler only has one small starter roll with 4 rubber flaps on it, new hollands and deeres have all kinds of bottom rollers and drums to help start a roll. This design is very simple, which will be great, if it works under different conditions. If such a simple design works good, wouldn't everybody else use it?

There is nothing wrong with Hesston hay equipment. The key to making a good round bale is to have a big uniform windrow of hay.
