Installed them tight with the proper tool.

Just curious how often you buy a new bar or completely redo your existing one.

For me the proper tool is a big hammer & an axle shaft on the bottom side, I do my repairs on the machine, just take a guard off.

It could be your tool didn't 'expand' the rivot enough. They need to expand to fill out the full hole, not just be peened over on the ends.

The driver head part can be difficult, you are making a sandwich with the sickle, head, & backbone, difficult to get the 3 parts clamped _very_ tight to smash the rivot down right.

I'm rapidly moving to bolted sections, much easier to deal with.

Tell you how serious I was to do that, I greased the threads on this $50 rivet installation tool and instead of using a 3/4 boxed end wrench, I took my impact tool and socket and that is how hard I smashed them. But since rebuilding that bar I stumbled upon the rivets (discussed this am) and never again back to rivets.

There are 2 spare bars in the previous owners shop and the 489 is about 20 years old at least so maybe every 10 years?
