We sold our old two basket tedder and bought a four basket. I liked it really well until yesterday. I was moving along at about 6 MPH and starting hearing a clicking sound then the sound of metal twisting and breaking. Two bolts had worked loose from the frame, the pipe guard that surrounds the left outer basket fell off and got wraped around the inner basket. I was almost done so I stopped and unhooked the tedder right there in the field. Going to start into it in the mourning after calling the dealer, to check the damage. The tedder had run less than 100 acres since buying it new. Should have kept the old one for a backup.

She broke down Tuesday, I called the dealer Wednesday and he said he'd take care of it. He offered to bring one out for us to use but I told him we won't have any more hay to ted for at least two weeks. Since I left it in the field about a mile from the house I didn't see anyone come look at it but one of his men pulled in about half an hour ago with several new parts and a service truck and he's up there working on it now. My son is heading that way to check things out. That's why I deal with that man even though he's not always the cheapest deal but most always the best deal!

Sick yes, but I would say not to uncommom now days. However, we are now running Kuhn rakes and tedders and have excellent service!!! Prior to that NH, but they do not offer the rotary hay rake and their tedders are actually a Kuhn any way. It took almost 15 years to have my first component failure - a double spring pin in an outboard rotor axle of the hay tedder.

Sickening eh? The 4 basket we have been using is down to a 3 basket now. So far:

1 flat
2 broken axles
1 broken roll pin
1 broken drive cross
1 stripped axle casting
6 broken tines
1 u-joint
1 gear box seal
