'nother odd NH knotter problem

My NH 66 has one original knotter, and one year-old replacement knotter. Both knot fine with very light bales (up to maybe 30 lbs), but both get "cranky" when I start to increase bale weight. The knots form, but don't slip off the bill hooks as I increase bale weight...I get maybe 50% tied. With the really light bales, it is closer to 100%.

Now 30 lb bales make my wife happy cuz she can handle them easy, but I can't sell the extras like that.

Any ideas why the bale weight would cause this problem? I've checked the knotter adjustments against the specs and can't find anything wrong.

thanks,
Tom

Tom, the problem is not the weight of the bales. The knotters could care less if you bale 10lb or 100lb bales. What matters is HOW TIGHT THE STRINGS ARE WRAPPED AROUND THE BALES. Anyway, loosen the tension at the small clamp on the bale box and this should help. Also, use as light as twine as you can get away with. No 7200 twine. This stuff is a problem on some knotters. But mainly, loosen that little clamp spring at the bale box. Steve

Sounds like the billhook cam tension is too tight.
