David, several years ago I lost a JD 435 baler to fire.I was baling and turned corner and saw it was dropping out burning hay for a way.I kicked out bale.I called 911 on cell then grabbed fire extinguisher.I thought I had it out 3 times.I ran out of fluid and it flamed up again.Unhooked tractor and pulled away in about 5 mins.baler was toast.Shortly later firetrucks arrived an put out field.Only lost 1 bale and 3 or 4 acres.A brg. in lower tailgate caused mine.Any brand round baler can catch fire as I have seen many differant brands burnt.Always carry fire extiguisher and insurance.Loose hay chafe burns like gasoline. It is difficult to tell smoke from dust when your baling grass hay and if baling hay that happens to get rained on it's really hard.Sorry about your loss,it's not fun.Jim B

Ouch, my condolences. Any idea how it started? Hope it was insured.

Insurance is pretty pricey until you need it. So far (since 87) I've lost a house and a tractor plus some wind and three other tractor fires that werent totals. Thats one bill I dont berudge paying.

insurance yes, enough no!!! I have no idea how it started that's reason I was curious if anyone else has had a problem. Everything was caught on a security camera, so it wasn't arson.
