In Indiana there is a huge surplus of JD 9500s coming off of 3 and 5 year leases. Reynolds had a big sale this spring with 3 year olds trading around $65,000. 6620s trading at $35,000 last year, are being offered around $20,000-25,000 from my observations.

A gent mentioned over on the JD board about a 6600 with 1,500 hours going for $2,200 in a bankruptcy sale. That included a 15 foot table and a 6 row 30" cornhead.

What are you all seeing in your part of the country?

I ain't that rich nor in that market but I had an interesting conversation with one of Deere's competitors' rep at the Farm Science Review this week. He claimed that Deere somehow gradually reduced the value in their combines and it is showing up in resale price these days. This makes it harder to switch paint. At least that's what I understood him to say. If it's true it's funny way to keep your customers locked in.

I think its supply and demand in Indiana. Just way too much of the mid to higher price stuff laying around. So far its not affecting the combines in the $10,000 range.

I don't know about the high end stuff, because around here there has not been a new combine "sold" in a few years.. I guess all the 9600 and 2188 that come in from lease must go to Indiana because dealers don't hold them here. No one can them. Oldies we use on small acerages are sometimes given away.

Some time back (I think it was on the "Combine Talk Show" web site) I read that these big sales of John Deere combines and other equipment are just dealer's auctions where (mainly) dealers buy each other's equipment to re-finance it and move it from lot to lot. Not much going to farmers. With the farm economy what it is, could there be some truth in this?

The sale that Reynolds put on (they have several stores in Indiana) was the real thing with farmers buying the equipment. JD is trying to sue them over it because of the huge price cuts. Last year a 3 year old off a lease would have been more like 85-90K.
