I'm going to look at a MF-#9 baler this afternoon to replace my old case. Anybody have any information, opinions, about this baler? How old is this model. He is asking 1600.00 dollars for it. He says it has set in his barn for the past 5 years. Thanks for all the help.

I think that $1600 is might high for an MF9 baler.

One thing to consider when buying these old balers is non-dealer support. I think you will find that you can get a ton of info about NH and JD balers here, in addition to used parts. I bought two JD 14T balers for $450 - but I had to keep a sharp eye out for them. I just saw a 24T with a good Wisconsin engine on in the paper for $350.

Good luck,
Bill

Why don't you buy a JD or NH baler instead? You may pay a little more, but they really have the best knotter and there are alot more of them around, so parts are easier to get.

Remember..... you get what you pay for.

I've had two MF #10s, very similar to the 9, I understand.

I wouldn't take another if it was given to me...never got a reliable knot, parts are expensive when you need them. I paid something like $650 for the first and $350 for the second (never outside overnight for its whole life), so the guy's asking price is way too high even for a good machine.

I think the #9 is very early 60s vintage...the #10 was mid 60s, at any rate.

The #9 didn't have a great reputation around here. I've got one I bought for parts as they share some common parts with the #12, the pick-up for example. I believe the #9 was from the early 60's but it might be later than that. There should be a number plate at the front of the baler near the drawpole. I'm not sure if the year is part of the serial #. IMHO, I'd say he's asking too much.
