Does anyone have experience with the Krone fixed chamber balers? I have a Claas now but we have lost the dealer and was thinking about trading soon anyway. The Massey dealer is a Krone dealer and says the the people who have purchased the Krones like them really well and have few problems with them. Thanks for your opinions and information!

Bought a new KR130 in 1990; makes 4x4 bales that we wrap with net. Dad ran it exclusively the first half dozen years & I've done the lion's share for about the last 8 years. Made between 600 & 1000 bales every year we've had it. Had to replace the gear box casting about 10 years ago, replace a couple 3 raddle bearings annually in recent years, & did some work on the dog clutch & replaced the drive chains several years ago. I am ignorant as to the operating ease & reliability of what the competition offers,so I cannot compare. In fact I don't know how closely the new Krones resemble it. I have cursed this baler on occasion, but mostly I admire its simplicity & reliability. I think I've got it pretty well figured out now & I like it fine. Most of our baling is predominately grass hay but also run some alfalfa, wheat straw, and clover on occasion. We like the +/- 550# hay bales as we winter our beef cows on pasture & unroll the hay by hand (cows never see a barn or "dry" lot). On snow covered ground with net-wrapped hay there'll be near-zero loss. If we were feeding out of feeders, I'd prefer the more-dense bales. Some years back Dad baled fresh cut hay with it & plastic wrapped it. I guess it handled the wet stuff OK, I wasn't there when that was run. Anyway, I'm satisfied with it & would consider looking at a new Krone except I'm more interested in getting the cows to forage more for themselves in the winter & cut back on hay. We're getting by with less hay than we used to & figure on another 15 years out of this Krone.

Personally I am a Vermeer man but have a lot of experience with the Krone mowers. The company stands behind there product well and if the balers are made to the same standards as the mowers they are good ones.
