I bought a kingkutter lastyear and all I have mowed with it is grass, I have never owned a bush hog before. I was wondering if it was normal for a 5 foot bush hog like this to vibrate a little bit, when it first starts up it vibrates a good bit but once I bring it up to 540rpm it vibrats slightly, is this normal for a bushhog like this? I was also wondering if it may damage my tractor? I have never hit anyting hard with it, just cut grass only.

I have a 7' HD kingkutter. It did the same thing. I set some stands under it this spring and crawled under it just checking everything out. Found that it has a splined shaft with a nut and cotter pin holding the blade holder/stump jumper on. I could rock the blade holder up and down some which I thought was to much. So I removed the cotter pin and got almost 3 rounds on the nut and put the pin back. It still has a little chatter when starting but it sure took the vibration out when up to speed and cutting. Glad I found that.Runs smooth now.

Make sure you have it blocked up good if you go underneath to check it out. Hope this helps.

I had a Brush Hog brand that did the same thing. When you start the PTO, the torque reaction causes it to "jump" and it may have a little bit of out of balance that will cause it to run with a slight vibration. As long as it isn't high amplitude and rattling the whole machine, it's probably pretty normal and shouldn't cause a problem. I'm sure other people will comment on this.
