I used one for sevaral years. One thing to keep in mind is to make sure the wood is cut long enough. Several times I stuck a short piece on and it got past the rest arm. It'll shake the tractor apart or it seems it will before you can get it stopped.

It is also good to use a tractor that has regular PTO for 540 and has the ground speed PTO too. That way if it gets stuck in a piece of wood you can use the ground speed and back the tractor up and get the cone out of the wood. I've seen many times it would ckoke out a MF 135 diesel that was running at 540.

The main thing is be very careful. I have a Hyd. splitter now. That cone is why I have the different splitter too.

Chris....there is one in my back shed...been sitting there for years.....cone is broken off at the end of the shaft and will need to be welded back on. Not many hours and the engine or splitter. Would be glad to sell it, but will take no responsibility after it leaves my sight. The last post is right, these things are widowmakers, but they will split wood.

I've got no personal experience with them but some have a reputation of being dangerous, some of being safe. Some turn slow with a very fine pitch on the screw so stuff doesn't happen so fast.

Some seem aggressive and fast which I think is dangerous.

One mounted on a skid steer loader run by a hydraulic motor could make quite a machine, the operator wouldn't be as near the action either.

I believe one popular brand was STICKLER.
