Knotter adjustment

So I have the operators manual for my NH271 that is having some knotter issues. It is occasionally having the twine hang up on the bill hook. One possible cause noted in the manual is that the knife arm may have insufficient lift (should be 3/8 to 1/2 inch clearance at it's furthest point). Only problem is the manual doesn't say how to fix this if it is a problem. Is there an adjusting screw or do you just bend it with pliers or pound it with a hammer? Options 2 or 3 seem rather dangerous in that something else could get out of whack. Help.

Might look at your billhook tension too

..... ..and twine tension, twine tension being too low can cause knots to hang on the billhook

DD, the lift on the sweep....knife arm is regulated by the brass cam bearing on the end of the knife arm. the only solution to your lift problem is to replace the brass bearing.
Are you sure that lift is the problem? My experience has been that the knife gets dull and dosn't cut the twine clean and then the knot dosn't sweep off the bill hook. Also be sure the sweep just lightly rubs the the bill hook.
Hope it helps..... ...
