my square bale customers are asking if i can put down a few round bales. I'm looking for pros & cons on a 5600. i have a excellent customer that has one thats in real good shape.
about 10 years ago he put a non-resettable bale counter on via jerry-rigging, the counter shows 2730. my thoughts are thats a low bale count for the last 10 years but have no idea what was ran before that. he showed me tickets where he put all new bearings in it about 9 years ago and more tickets where he put more new bearings and belts on it spring of last year. now here comes the question... i'm a square bale custom operator will this baler handle 500 bales a year without a lot of major expense??? he's getting rid of it because he had a stroke in the field last fall and i've been helping him and his wife out with thier hay needs (loading-unloading-stacking)just so he doesn't have to and they reward me very well. sorry it's so long just giving some history behind this baler

sounds like a lot of bearing replacements???!?! from sitting out or poor quality?? (or both?) I like the Gehl's (1995/newer)

I have a 5580 rounder. Puts out 5x6 that U of Cal (as I recall) said, in their tests, put out 1750 to 1950 lb rolls. I paid $2500 for mine (3 yrs ago)and the bearings were replaced that year. Has 8 ea 5" belts.

Has to be manually stopped to tie, manually operated tieing mechanism, and manual dump. Nearly impossible to make flat topped bale; usually a little barrel to them.

I bale for me and for the price it's great.
