I have a 1970 Ford 3000 with a 730 loader. I'm ready to purchase a box blade. I do light work around the house on 1.5 acres and some light clearing work on 10 acres.
I know my tractor width is a little over 5 feet, so I'm thinking I want a 6' or wider box blade. Does that sound right? Any recommendations on brand or things to watch out for?
Thanks,
Stretch

Stretch,

I have a 6 foot scraper blade and a 6 foot box blade. Both King Kutter brand much maligned on this board. I run them behind Ferguson TO-30.

Box blade is much better at leveling ground then scraper blade. This year I put in over an acre of lawn and landcaping with mine. I don't think I could have done that with just a scraper blade. I also leveled about 1500 feet of rutted trail to the point that I can now mow it with lawn tractor.

I tried to do my trail work with a scraper blade last year and even after adding a lot of weight across the top it just was not effective.

Anyhow, there you have my 2 bits worth.

I like Gannon. An accidental meeting with a root, rock etc will ruin light or even med duty one.

Forget the box part and just buy a good heavy blade. Get one that angles AND tilts. It will do everything a box blade will do, plus about 1000% more. Once in a while a box blade will do something in one pass that may take 2 or even 3 passes with a regular blade, but those times are rare.

I'm unclear about about whether you intend to use the box blade for light clearing of your property????

What exact use do you intend to use the box blade for???

Robert

Thanks fellows for your thoughts.
Are there any websites for Gannon blades? Also, I've heard people say they prefer a regular blade to a box blade before. Maybe I need a regular blade.
Robert, I'm just leveling things on my land. I'm not tearing up any heavy brush or anything... or even expecting to find any rocks. I live in southwest NM so it's mostly desert. But I want to level parts of my yard and land. My tractor has a 730 loader, but it just doesn;t level things very well...or maybe I'm not very good at it.
Any more advice, even from you same guys, will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Stretch
