Well, yesterday I was cutting grass (for baling) on improved smooth pasture in 4th of 8 at 1400 rpm (nice comfortable speed). Stopped for a stretch break and looked at my equip. Looking twice at the tail wheel, it had disintigrated. The hub was broken off and the flares that hold the tire (chopped up old tires) were just flapping. Tire was just hanging at an angle. What's next?

What chapps me about this whole deal is that it cuts good, real good. It just won't stay together. I need to get my wife's dig. camera and take a picture of my mods and post. You'd get a bang out of it.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing to my JD brush hog last week. I was hoggin' a small area of brush and I turned around and saw the tail wheel doing wierd things. I shut it down and figured I had to pull a stick out of the there or something. I checked it out and couldn't believe what I saw. The hub was shattered just like you said yours was. The flange was in about five pieces and the wheel was flopping all aound. I just got a new one sent to me. I can't figure what would have broken it that way.

They are not made of the heaviest or best material. They are made for light duty work, even if they say HEAVY DUTY! They are sold because of their price and because some people have to have new and not used equipment. They are what they are... and that's all that they are. If you just need something to do a small and light job, a heavy duty KK will do it for a while.

I was doing a custom rotavateing job for a guy 50 miles from here. When i got done he wanted a bunch of rotary cutting done, but i didn't have my Woods cutter along. He says, no problem, i have a HD KK cutter!!

I didn't want to put it on my 45hp tractor, but he is a good customer and kept telling me he runs it with his WD 45, and what a bind he was in right then. Finally i gave in, and agreed to do it, BUT told him "i'm not responsible if anything happens to your cutter!!"

I checked the gear box oil ect...., and started cutting. First thing i noticed is how it didn't cut near as nice as either of my Woods cutters. Then in the second hour BAM!! it was all over!! The gear box went!!!

I guess i'll stick with Woods, yes they cost more, but mine have been the best cutters i've ever owned or used!!

Well, that's my rub. I don't have a large operation and large investments pay little or no dividends so I tend to stay on the low side in price. Get what I pay for. But for now that will have to do.

Like my roundbaler. It's all manual and doesn't put out a beautiful roll like a JD 535 would; but it doesn't cost what the 535 costs either and I'm not customing so I don't have to please anyone.
