477 NH Haybine Question

I just purchased a 477 NH haybine at an auction. I check it over before the sale and it looked in great shape. I've cut about 20 acres with it and it has performed without a hitch. I have found a crack on the drive belt (wobble box side) that I need to replace before using again (don't want it to break during the next cutting). I didn't get a manual with the machine at the sale. I have looked and there doesn't seem to be an eazy way to replace the belt without taking things apart. My question is how do I go about replacing the belt with the least amount of work and trouble.

I just went through it on a 488. Wasn't a quick job but did get it done. It is explained fairly well in the #488 manual--- & I would expect that it is in yours too, if you have one. Like you surmised, you wouldn't want to have hay ready to bale when you tackle it!

Good luck!

Sorry Mike, but there is no shortcut or easy way. Remove the 3 half inch bolts out of the bottom of the wobble assembly to allow the pitman arm to pivot out and up. Then remove the chains and all those bolts holding the gearbox frame piece and remove the bolts holding the dearbox output shaft bearing so the gearbox and frame piece can slide out far enough to allow removal of the belt. Sorry, but I have no magic wand for you on this one. Steve
