Baling wheat straw with my NH 80 baler yesterday and the Wisconsin would constantly cut out / pop/ miss until it was under heavy load when it would smooth out. Where do I start trouble shooting? Ignition? Thanks Dick Davis

Dick, do I understand you correctly that the engine pops and misses with no load on it, but smooths out when a load is put on it? That is backwards from most engine problems. Off the top of my head, the first thing I would ask you is did this problem just start? Was anything done to the motor recently? If not, does the engine idle or does it shut off when you idle it down? I've seen the small idle jet clog shut. It will not affect the engine's load performance, but will sound bad with no load on it. Also, check igition timing. Steve

Thanks for the reply Steve. It does miss until a good load is applied and then it smoothes out, strange. It started doing this when I started it first time this year. Didn't do anything to it over the winter. I did replace the plugs when I first got it going for the year - no help. No the engine doesn't idle for squat. When the engine is at full throttle but light load it misses, would the idle jet be in play at that time? I do appreciate your thoughts on solutions. Dick Davis
