My Case 555 haybine(heston pt10) is breaking the chain that runs the reel ,,everything spins free. but the reel chain snaps,,any ideas??? Thanks,,,Jim

Mine did the same thing drove me crazy, till I bought a new chain and installed, it worked great last year after that...

How worn out is the chain, and or sprocket? These will cause a chain to break.

The most common reason I can think of is that the reel bearing behind the reel slip clutch is worn. If this were the case, then you could move that side of the reel all around when the chain was off. However, if the reel end is stable and turns freely, that wouldn't be it. I'm at a loss. Misaligned chain?

It turned out to be the bearing,, we found out yesterday, drove 130 miles each way today to get the bearings,,bought all 3 for the reel and will fix it tomorrow,,Thanks,,,Jim
