I called today on a price and was told $2000.00 I'll guess I'll pass. I know I need a tedder but never used one and really don't know enough about them at the present time. with this weather it just takes to long to dry a windrow out of my NH 256. some have said sell the 256 and buy a rotary rake??

I sold my 254 in fair to good condition privately for $1800 last fall. I had replaced the nylon cam rollers, the tines, and the tires which wasn't too expensive. I drilled out large nuts to the size of the roll pins and welded them on to repair the wear mentioned below. The expensive repair would be if the cams or gearboxes are worn out. Also the nylon bushings that the arms rotate in tend to wear although I never priced these parts. I'd recommend the 255 over the 254 which uses bearings rather than nylon bushings. This machine is an o.k. rake and tedder but single purpose machines are better. My biggest complaint was with the center windrow discharge it took 4 trips to make a nice large double windrow. The 254 did get me hooked on fluffy loose rotary windrows.

Everything is metric on it. Nylon rollers on the rake cams like to wear out. Look at the roll pins that hold the tine arms on, these often wear through with lots of use, and you'll bend, break and/or lose parts as a result. Depending on how hard they've been beaten, $500-$1800 at auction in this area. Be aware that the PTO shaft can interfere with the tine arms when you lift the unit.
