I have to vent. Hopefully it might save someone a few dollars. I bought a King Kutter 5'rotary cutter and the day I brought it home I ended up rewelding joints because they broke within a few minutes use. The gearbox howls like a demon as soon as it starts mowing and the only exit discharge (rear) was exactly 1 foot wide which left tidy windrows when I didn't want to make hay. What a piece of crap. Then in desperation the other day I needed to by a back blade to repair my road. You guessed it another King Kutter jewel. The blade was so poorly braced that I literally bent the blade into a bow as soon as I hit a small root. I also twisted the main shaft (4" pipe). Now before you can say that I was abusing it let me tell you all this happened on a little ole 8N. That tractor does not have any power. There materials, workmanship and welding is terrible. Never again....

I've said this same thing myself, on this very board many times, and there's always a few that post that i'm full of it!!

I've seen a few KK tillers shot too, and also a few guys on here looking for parts for there KK tillers.

Tillers and hogs have to endure too much abuse to buy a cheapo one!!! This is one place where it's worth paying more!!!

I stay with my opinion that you get what you pay for and for the most part cheap stuff has some sacrifice somewhere to make it cheap.

Get what you pay for- Servis /Rhino hard to beat.
My Cyclone72 has 1/4" thick deck instead of sheetmetal with angle iron tacked to it. I go HD with everything, even if I have to buy used(especially box and rear blades).

So I buy a Servis/Rhino thinking it's supposed to be great. Well it looks great and runs great but unless I get the blade right on the ground and run in 3rd of 6 gears, it skips over some of the grass. And yeah, I have it tilted forward slightly and the chains are off the rear so that the grass can exit.

txblu, I sharpen blades at a steep angle and set cut height about 3". Mows nicely thru waist high bahai(thick and tough) in 3/low. Any faster and it' not a comfortable ride anyway.

Have you tried raising your tail wheel up? I know they can be a pain untill they are adjusted

Actually blu the back of the bush hog is supposed to be a lil higher then the front that way 1 blade cuts while the other is free for a split second. This saves wear on the mower and tractor pto.

Any farmer knows that a bush hog was not designed to cut a field like a lawnmower. Thats where some ppl get mixed up here. A Bush hog is mainly to cut the tall grass down so that the livestock can get to the undergrowth, also helps withs avoid pinkeye in cattle, keep the brush clear and take care of thistles (if ya have them)etc. If u want your field to look like your yard then buy a finish mower.

I have a 6 foot KK bush hog and i havent had any problems with it, and believe u me i dont baby any of my eqiupment but i dont abuse it either. Ive cut up to 3 inch thick saplings with it and black berry bushes about 4 feet taller then the tractor. Nothing has broke or shattered or anything. I guess its just luck of the draw.

I have a dissertation on the subject posted Friday. My experience is quite different and did it with a Ford 3000. And I don't abuse my stuff either.

once burnt twice shy ,did you not learn the 1st time. K.K is a waste of natural resources , how they get away with selling that junk . Although their 3pt tiller works dont ask me how . at least they got one thing right..

Generally the gear box does not come with lube in it. Didja' check and see if there was any in it? Sounds like you should have taken it back to the dealer when the welds broke. They have a one year warrantee as I recall. Good Luck!

what kinda oil did you put in it, generaly most bushog gearboxes that are old or cheaply made seem to like a heavy gear oil like 90/140 or 80/90 atleast, and also i always put a decent amount of grease in the gearbox even if the seal doesnt leak that way if the seal gets torn out and you dont notice it your gearbox will still have some lube till you check the oil and see its empty

That grease mixes with the oil in no time, and if the seal is gone, the grease will go out with the oil!!!
