HAVE BEEN WATCHING TO BUY A LITTLE NEWER HAY RAKE.
(SOMETHING ON RUBBER) THIS RAKE HAS BEEN FOR SALE AND GUY WONT MOVE ON PRICE. WANTS $550. ARE THEY ANY GOOD? DONT HAVE A TEDDER SO, USE RAKE TO ROLL HAY OVER, TO HELP IN DRYING? NEVER HERD MUCH ABOUT INT RAKES,
DONT KNOW MODEL# ITS A 4 BAR, GROUND DRIVE,LOOKS TO HAVE ROPE RUN TO BACK FOR SOMETHING?
WOULD IT BE A PEICE I SHOULD CHECK INTO MORE?
IT'S ABOUNT 1 HOUR DRIVE FROM MY PLACE TO WHERE IT IS SITTING FOR SALE.

We bought an IH 35 five bar rake with dolly wheels off a neighbor earlier this year for $700 but it has always been shedded and was in good shape for it's age. We ended up having to put new seals in the gear box before we started this year and yesterday we had to replace the wheel bearings but otherwise we are very happy with the job it does and I would like to buy another like it but with hydrualic drive.

Dang maybe i should go to Mn. and buy rakes?
I bought a IH #35 ,five bar i think , 3 years ago payed $600 for it . was in ready to use condition, needed paint though. parts are fairly easy to get, i like it ,it does good job and not many problems. although the cast iron hitch tongues crack , it is easy to make a milled steel one to replace.

John, around here, southern WI, good rakes no matter if they are 4, 5, or 6 bar bring $50-$2000 dollars. I bought a New Idea 400 5 bar for $500, and a MF #37 6 bar for $15, and both were good. The IH 4 bar I had was a 35, which you can convert to a 5 bar. I gave $650 for mine in nice shape and turned it into a 5 bar with a junk yard bar and one afternoon. I think that all the IH rakes, rubber tired anyways, should have a serial tag on the left hand frame arch. By me we have A LOT of horse people driving prices back up, niice if your selling, bad for buying.

Most of the 4 bar International rakes that I have seen are numbered somewhere in the teens (#14 or #15). These are usually ground driven by a chain. This being hay season, for a good looking, functional rake, that seems like about average for a 4 bar rake in my neck of the woods.

Here in southern MN a NH 256 5 bar rake goes either side of $1000; a NH 56 5 bar rake goes either side of $500; a NH 55 5 bar rake goes $350, and any other brand of 4 bar rakes go about $150-200.

At the above prices, all seem to do the job based on what they cost - 5 bar is better, NH seems to do a better job, etc.

Perhaps local conditions 'there' make hay rakes worth more. While the rake will do the job for you, seems at least double what I am used to for price.

Robe is to disengage ground drive for transport. Get better raking with 5 bar NH at $1500 here in N. Tx. For the $$$ maybe not a bad deal.
