Stunted alfalfa

Another post I read mentioned stunted alfalfa due to the high levels of rain ereceived earlier this year.

I just planted a field in May. In june we get 12 inches of rain over 5 days. I have some that has never been cut that is 5 inches tall(Some is 15 inches and growing well). Will this stunted alfalfa recover with a cutting and fertilizer? Or should I till under this fall and replant?

Joe, We had a similar situation. We mowed it with a conditioner and baled it. It was poor, but the cutting done it good...it took off and now looks healthy like it should. We fertilized when we planted via broadcasting.

Joe, did you fertilize before you planted it? I got about 18" of rain that one month on my new 25 acre field, and already cut it once at 30". I use 0-0-62, or straight potash, about 200# to the acre. I would cut it with a brush hog and fertilize the s*it out of it, then it will grow like mad
