Looking for someone who can help figure out why my baler won't tie. The needle lacks about one inch going up far enough so that the twine gets to the disk. It won't tie. Need help!!!! Thanks! (Or call me anytime at (573) 438-6744 till 10:00 pm.)

There is an adjustable clevis on the connecting rod between the needle swing frame and the needle brake.

How worn are the needles?
They may need to be replaced!$$$$
Find used ones if it comes to that.

Hi Carl
I too own a #10 that refused to tie.
I have the knotters in pieces right now waiting for new twine fingers.

First of all, do both knotters mistie?
If only one ties, you can use the one that works as a model for adjustments.
There are a number of problems of why they wouldn't tie.

It is incredibly helpful to have somone turn the flywheel over by hand and trip the knotter clutch to watch it to see whats going on.

1) In each knotter, are there 2 ends of twine resting on the fingers?
2)Do the needles bring the twine up far enough?
3)When the twine fingers finish their cycle, do they let go of the knot?
4) Do you have a manual? It provides every clearance and adjustment for the knotters you could ever want. If you don't have one I'll try to xerox and send a few pages from mine.

I have twine fingers and stripper arm springs on order, and should arrive tomorrow or Saturday. I have been playing with this baler for about two years and made every adjustment I could think of, or the manual suggested, without having to replace the twine fingers, since they are $108.00 apiece. Theres nothing else I can do now, so I bought them. A baler that won't tie is no damn good.

Get back to me with some more details, and I'll help you as much as I can.

Thanks for the email. This baler tied perfectly when I first got it. But after some use it started missing bales. I did adjust the arm on the side of the baler because the needles didn't seem to be going back far enough when the they were in the resting position maybe I adjusted them to far back. I will try this. thanks a lot for your time. I live in Missouri and have about 80-90 acres to bale yet. I put most of the hay up in round bales but like to have square bales when it is cold and can't get tractor started.

The resting position of the needles is insignificant, as long as they're out of the bale chamber. In the position where they have gone up as far as they can, they need to be 2.75" to 3" above the twine disk. Trip the knotters, rotate the flywheel until the needles are at their upmost position, and then adjust the clevis and swing frame accordingly.

90 acres?!
That's a lot of hay. Here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, 20 acres is big.

Try this and see what happens. Hopefully, you won't have to replace anything.
