Hello!

This is my first posting. I love this website! I've read or skimmed through all of the posts in this forum. GREAT info but not the answer I need for this problem. I got the seller to throw in a McCormick No. 30 sickle bar mower when I bought my MTA. He had bought it at a sale and it is missing its hydraulic cylinder. I would like to restore it to good working order. Does anyone know what length of cylinder these used and the stroke length or a source for a parts manual? Also has anyone used one of these or know when they were made? Thank you!

Best Regards,
- Vic in N. Central PA

Vic,
Is this mower similar to a model 31s sickle mower? I have one of those. It is drawbar mounted and has a sinlge wheel on the back? Mine is mounted on an A type frame. Where is the cylinder located. I have a model 27 that the cylinder is very long and goes under the right rear wheel. It is mounted toward the rear of the mower on the model 31. Let me know if this sounds familiar and I'll measure one of them for you. I use mine on my M all of the time. It works great.

Devin -

Thank you for responding so quickly. I just got home and was looking the mower over again and realized I had written model No. 30 when I meant No. 31. I'm not sure what the difference is for the "S" but mine has a circular decal on top that says "No. 31 Tractor Mower." As you described my mower is made to mount to the drawbar w/ a single rear wheel on a sort of A-frame. The hydraulic cylinder mount is toward the rear of the frame opposite the sickle bar. The front cyl. mount has been welded several times and looks like they added or repositioned the front mount possibly to use a different cyl. As it is, it measures 17" center-to-center of mounting holes. I guess I'm most concerned with how much stroke the cylinder I buy should have to fully move the sickle bar. Thank you for any help!

Best Regards, - Vic

Vic, I just got done measuring that cylinder. The center to center measurement of the pins when the blade is down is 23". When the bar is up the measurement is 28". The point that the front of the cylinder mounts to is sort of a swivel. This raises the bar about 16" of off the ground. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Good luck.
