Can a Jubilee lift a bale?

My Jubilee has great hydraulics. I can lift my Howse 5' Brush Hog completely off the ground.
Question is, can a bale spear work on a tractor like this. I don't know how much a bale weights to tell you the truth. We are having our hay cut this week and don't need to keep it, but next year we will. I would like to have bales if I can handle them. Thanks everyone!

It'll lift one just fine, as far as goin up hill with one i would always just back up the hill instead of goin forward.

I have moved 4x5 bales weighing 850 to 1000# with a NAA, but not far, usually just to line them up after hauling them . You cant steer too good going uphill as the front end will come up and you have to use brakes to steer. I agreee with the others who recommend a tow behind mover.

This depends on what size bales you are lifting. I bale 4 X 4 bales with a NH 648 and mostly bale grass hay. A Jubilee in good shape will handle them with little or no problems. Now if you get some of the bigger bales (6 X 5 for example) then you will probably have a problem. The type of hay and moisture content can also make a difference. I use this size baler because most folks in my area don't have large enough equipment to handle the big bales. I custom bale some hay and also sell some rolls. And someone that has a pickup can come and let me load one and they can roll them off at home for their one or two horses or few cows. So the answer to your question is it depends on the bale size. Hope this helps a little.

Rick,
Instead of lifting it, you can get a pull behind type trailer that lifts the bale for you. You back up into the side of the bale and an arm swings up and over the bale. Once the bale is cradled, when you pull forward it will lift the bale and it's ready for transport across the pasture or down the road. I use one with an 8N all the time. Works good and alot less stress on the tractor.
If you're interested, I can find the web site to give you a better description of it.

Thanks all, and Mike if you can find that link I'd appreciate it. I'll do some surfing.

I used to have a front end loader on my baby, but it broke the steering mechanism. Ford said it could be welded but a good welder and 2 cases of cold beer later I was back in business. Gave him the laoder for his trouble.

I like having the old girl back to when I bought her.

I have moved a lot of 4x4 and 4x5 rolls with a Jubilee using a set of forks. A spear should not be any different.

We use 5x6 rounds here that have been tested and weigh between 1500 and 2000 lbs approx. depending upon variables.

Your pressure system will lift 2000 lbs if you have it in decent shape.

Your front end will come off the ground if you don't put a bracket of some kind on the front (attach to holes in front axle) and install about 6 ea concrete (not cinder block) solid blocks in front of the grille.

Have a '62 2000 and do it all the time.

I don't know what a round bale weighs, either, but I'm pretty sure your Jubilee's front wheels will start to come off the ground before your 3 point hydraulics say "uncle". With my 850, that point is reached at about 1000 lbs. If your Jubilee has a front loader that will help counterbalance the rear load some but I'm betting a round bale is going to be too heavy.

I agree with Jim UT: that Jubilee was designed before they even thought of round bales, and the weight is going to put a major strain on your hydraulics, not to mention lift the front end. Depending how cured the bale is, they can easily weight over 2000 lbs.
And a spear on a loader won't be any better, since the front axle wasn't designed for that much weight either (a broken axle can ruin your whole day!)
A pull-type bale mover is a much better way to go.
