Having a problem making consistant bales. I have taken a file and cleaned up the teeth on the rachet drive and adjusted the stand off. Have installed a new idler on the trip end. I know windrow size variation is one of my problems. A large windrow causes the sprocket to spin on the trip arm as its smooth and the teeth on the driver do not grip it. Any one have an idea to make this work consistantly? I am thinking about filing some grooves in the trip arm. Do other balers have this problem?

A friend had a baler that did that. Replacing the tension spring on the gauge wheel arm with a stiffer one took care of the problem

I had similar problem, filing grooves on the trip arm helps, on my 47 the pulley that moves the trip arm comes apart and in the center the part that actually contacts the trip arm is a bushing with fine grooves in it which wears and can be replaced.

That's what I did and it works fine (file grooves)
