I was wondering if anyone out their has a manual for this rake. If so can you e-mail me the page that shows how to replace the bearing that is in the back of the gear box, that leads to the rake wheel. At least I beleive that is all that is wrong. Please help this 1st time square baler.

Well people thanks for the input, but I pulled it apart tonight and found out I have some major problems. The housing is busted, the shaft came apart in two peices. So my Question is can you purchase the whole gear box all the way to the hay rake wheel? If not any got the parts or a rake fpr sale.

Yikes!!! I am sure your NH dealer can get you what ever you need for a 256, but I would hate to venture a guess as to how much thats gona cost.

Might be cheaper to find a used 56 or anoher 256 and use that one for parts.

Just curious, Howed you break that?

A parts manual will help you, show it all exploded. Nothing really tells you step by step, as Steve says. Your local NH dealer should be able to pull it up on his monitor & explain it to you. My 55 is slightly different, but had to do the same at the end of 1st cutting. I guess I would plan on replacing all 4 bearings as long as you are in there, or at least the 2 on the shaft you are pulling - be a lot easier, and with one side shot, the other is bound to be as well.

There is no manual that covers this. I always remove the box from the rake, but techanicly I guess you would not have to. You must remove the input shaft and gear. The rolabar reel must be removed. Then inside that hub that the reel was fastened to is a slotted nut with cotter pin. Remove nut and keyway from shaft and remove output shaft from gearbox. Make sure you replace the bearing race as well. Steve
