Finshed Baling, Remove all hay from baler

Finished my baling with my new/used JD 24ws wire tie baler. Does everyone pull out that semi baled hay out and leave everything clean? It's sort of nice not to have to go pick up the first untied bale when you start baling with nothing in the baler.

If you do pull all the hay ourt of the baler, does it matter where you cut the wire. I think you should leave some length after the horns. Opinions???

Only time I empty chamber is if I baled too late in evening & it got tough. Under normal conditions, just loosen tension x turns and tomorrow tighten x turns. The two bales left in the baler keep all moisture away from inside chamber & it's shiny and ready to go next year. Baler always gets backed under shed or a tarp well placed over knotters & bale chamber.

Never have pulled the hay out, and probably never will. Never caused any problems.

Gramps always told me never to leave old hay in the baler when you are done baling.
He said it rots and attracts mice that pee acid and leave little turds all over.

On the farm I worked on we never cleaned baler out ,never had any problems. Just keep it lubed will last a long time

Trip it, so it ties, then you can remove all the hay and it will be ready to go next time.. Swab the chanber and tension shute with a mop and used engine oil.. Swab the plunger knife too..

With my NH twine baler I leave the bale & 1/2 in. If I baled wet stuff, it's easier to feed in a busted dry bale from the barn so the chamber doesn't rust on the wet stuff.

I prefer to leave the baler as it finished and put it under a shed till next time. I have 2 bales of the old crop come out first, but there is no fiddling with pressure or wire routing or anything. I can hit the field (next time) and get on with baling. I work days and have to farm after the fact and I don't have time for delays. It needs to work right the first time. (Of course that never happens!)
