Repairing Baler belts

I noticed a hole in one of the belts close to the edge on a my Vermeer baler.

Is there any way to repair before it tears out to the side.

If the tear is going with the length of the belts it will not affect the strength of the belts. However if it is going across the belt then it will effect the strength of the belt. If so then I would remove the belt from the baler measure the total length and add a splice. If the tear is within about four feet of and end I would replace all to the end. If it is in the middle of the belts I would replace about 1' section. Any shorter and the belt might have trouble going thru the upper drive rollers. If I can help any more let me know.

Not sure if this applies to Vermeer or not but on a NH you cna cut out a 1' or more pc and replace. My outside belts both have repair splices in them.
