I am new to hay and I have bought a new holland 268 now I can't seem to get more than 5 bales and the strings stop knotting and get all knotted up around the knifes, I was told I had to time it does anyone know how to time this, and adjust the knotters?
Thank you

i could be wrong but it looks like the twine discs are a little too tight if thats sisal your using(its a bigger diameter that bt170/7200 or what ever you want to call it) and that is a flat spot on that cam bearing/check it and also the look at the knife blade, by looking at the jagged sisal it could need sharpened. you might try palstic to see if it does any better, my old nh277 worked the best with 140/9000.

Does not sound like a timing issue. You may have some other adjustments that are needed. Also some of the knotter parts may be worn.
Lift the knotter and look at the cam bearings. The one in the photo has flat spots. If yours are the same you may need to rebuild them.

Go to my web site. Click on the New Holland 68 link on the left side. There is a link on that page that shows how to rebuild a Nh knotter. At least it shows how I rebuilt a NH knotter. The right way may be different but you get the idea.

Based on what uou have said "can't seem to get more than five bales" I do not think it is a timing issue. If it were timing I think you would be shearing pins. On my New Holland 269(basicly the same baler) I have that problem when i set the tension too tight. It could be something else but as mentioned it is hard to tell you without you having a manual. The last manual I ordered from my New Holland dealer about six years ago cost me around twenty dollars. I have ordered some manual from other equipment manufacturers on line. You might try to find New Hollands webb site and see if it can be done there. I have gotten manuals from tractor supply, and other non branded dealers might be able to do it for you.

A New Holland dealer. Find the serial number on the baler if possible, sometimes that determines which manual you need.

800-635-4913 I have this number written down as New Holland Publications number. Not sure if it is still current (wrote it down 4+ years ago)

Get an operator manual and a service manual. You will need them. Balers are too complex to fiddle around with.
