Super 68 bale length problems

Finally got the chance to bale yesterday, now the baler's acting up. My problem is I'm making 6 foot long bales. Most people I sell to don't like them that long. Anyway, what's happening is this, the trip arm is stoping about a half inch before it trips the knotters. The friction disc wore a small groove in the trip arm where it was hanging up. I filed the trip arm smooth and reset the gap to 1/8 inch as the manual reccomends, still no luck, now the trip arm won't reset. There's a small pin(1/4 inch)that has a rubber washer on it at the bottom of the trip arm,it appears that when I adjusted the gap, that this pin was hitting the roller that is on the outside of the friction disc, preventing the trip arm from reseting. Would laying a bead of weld on the trip arm to build it up work, or would the metal from the weld be too hard? Would it be better to just buy a new trip arm? I've got at least two days to fix it since it rained last night(DANG IT!!) Thanks in advance. Greg
