IH 3 point sical mower

Well I just tried out an IH 3 point sical mower that I bought early last year. I seemed to cut ok for not beeing used for over 10 to 15 years ago. I then ended up running into a wet gofer mound and plugged up the blade. Also had some small stones hit the knives and broke a guard. This caused the mower to miss about one foot in the center of the swath. I removed the blade, looked down the back of the blade and it looks like a snake. Also the the bar that the guards attach to has a 1/2 to 3/4 inch crown to the front of the mower. I was thinking of replacing the cutter bar until I seen the crown in the main support bar. Should this bar be straight, will this be a problem if I use it as is? Can this bar be straighened out, if so how. I don't know the model number of the mower other then it is a seven footer. Thanks .

Hi, I think the one that we had was a model C28,
7ft cut, 3pt hitch with pitman. Later models had no pitman.
Re the knife section bar usually got bent a little at the outer end when you cut to close to a rock or solid fence post and the bar hit the object in its outbound stroke. The bar was made of soft material and could be straightend easily. If it got bent to much it was difficult to remove from the cutter bar.

Re cutter bar, it should not be worn unless someone never replaced the wear guides under the keepers. The wear guides have a slotted holes and can be adjusted to hold the knife section bar away from rubbing on the cutter bar.

This was an excellent mower for its time, especially if it had the heavier rock guards and knife sections installed. Also there was a special 3 headed knife section to go on the very outside position to prevent plugging on the outside. 35 years ago I mowed many acreas with one of these mowers.
