I broke the apron chain on my 850 NH. I replaced the bar and link kit. I used a come along to pull the links back together as the manual advised. MY problem is this. I baled a couple of rolls with it and the bales looked fine. Then they started to look uneven and the ends were loose and sloppy. I know I was filling the chamber properly. Upon inspecting it further it now appears that one side of the apron chain has more slack than the other. I have check the adjustments and they are equal at the tope 2". Should I adjust one side to bring the chain back in. On one side it looks as if it might jumpo off of the sprocket when first starting a bale. Is this my problem or should I be looking at something else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
Devin

This is just a thought but you didn't loose one link out of one side did you. That would explain the first bale or two looking ok then as you ran it one side would be trying to get ahead of the other putting the chain in a bind. This is just a idea. Brian

I would that if the idlers and slide are all-right, you have a stretched chain in need of replacement.

Did you use the 3 link repair set? More than likely I say there is a bearing out in one of the idlers. Great fun, trust me :-). Good luck with it. Few years ago I had an 847 that had a bearing fail (with 3/4 of a roll) broke the shaft and tied the chain in a knot, sprung the whole baler.

Thanks for the advice. I just told Kelly C. a week or two ago that this baler has been pretty much maintenance free. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut. Would it be ok to attempt to adjust one side of the chain in if the bearings appear ok? Thanks again.

Not sure if NH recommends it but I have many times adjusted 1 side). Remember, every sprocket and every idler has one little bearing in it. After 2 I pulled all mine while I had the chain out.

I think I'll try adjusting just one side then first. I haven't checked yet but I wonder if the chain cold have advanced a link on the side that didn't break before I got the PTO shut down? I appreciate all of your help. Thanks.
