I'm looking at buying a mo-co, would like some help in determining pros and cons of different models.Budget is tight, as always, but I want something reliable. I've been hearing good things about the 460 through 479's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all. Greg

nh's are plentiful and parts are reasonable
but if your gonna do a lot of hay work find a hesston 1010,1012,1014.they are more durable and hardly ever breakdown, you can pick one up $1500.i ran nh cutters when i was doing small fields for friends, then decided to turn my sideline money into a full time business, pitched almost all my nh stuff and went to hesston never looked back HESSTON KNOWS HAY!!!!!

There are always exceptions, but I would not buy anything older than a 479. 469's and older are just that; old. Parts availability is getting to be an issue. The average 479 is 30 years old. The 479 and 488 that replaced it is a solid design, the 488 is current production and shares almost all parts with the 479 so availability won't be a problem for years.

I have used NH cutters for years. I like most of the models, but overall the 488 is the least complicated, takes a lot of abuse, and is cheap to repair. I cut a lot of thick burmuda and sudan which can reach several feet tall. Good used 488 cutters are relatively easy to find in most areas.
