Anything can be done about dusty hay?

In a rush to beat a rain I baled up about 300 bales of hay that looked ready, but I guess wasn't. Now that it's cured, it's pretty dusty. Nice and green, not overtly moldy, (No black or white specks) but far too dusty for my liking. Some ofthe old-timers around here call it "ash". Was wondering if any of you had a way to clean this up, like re-baling it or laying it out, tedding and rebaling.

What is the dust composed of?

-Soil from the ground (baler pickup tines too low)?
-Grass pollen?
-Dust from the air settling on the hay prior to cutting?
-Mold mildew or other fungus?
-Broken bits of hay created during the cutting, tedding, raking or baling processes?

Each type of dust may have its own or no solution.

I only did the rebale one time when I, like you got in too big a hurry. The afternoon after I baled the hay I checked it and it was obviously headed for the bone yard. I took it back to the field, open the bales and teddered it. After a couple of hours I raked and baled. Made a big difference; I'd say it saved it.

I've fed and seen cows eat garbage. You'd think the stuff would kill them. They get fat. They don't die. What else could you ask for. Maybe it makes alcohol and they get drunk and get fat because of alcohol sugar not TDN.LOL

Your call.

Cattle won't mind the dust if it's good hay, I've fed very moldy second cutting hay to cows and they will eat it up. I wouldn't go to the trouble to do anything else.

i done the same thing about 3 years ago, wasn't to fun at all, had to cut about 400 strings-- not a fun afternoon but i was lucky when i ran the tedder over it again let it set in the hot sun about 2 hrs. baled it.
now i've gone to a different process
HARD SWEAT
after you mow it(in the cool part of the morning)
let it set till noon
rake it 1st time
let it set 2hrs
roll it over again
let it set 2hrs
put rake 30 minutes ahead of the baler(2 tractors)
here in oklahoma the sun really bears down perfect for drying quickly
i only do this when i try to beat the rain
ssb
broken arrow, ok
