Hesston 5500 Update

After my first month of baling with my new (to me that is) Hesston 5500, I must say that I�m impressed.
Previous to this year I�d never ran a baler before and my 5500 is very easy to operate. I�m able to bale
even short hay that�s only been single windrowed. In heaver hay you don�t even have to weave back and
forth to make a uniform bale. My neighbors told me that I�d need a bigger (better) rake than my old IH side delivery rake,
but what I have seems to work great. My biggest problem, at first was not putting enough string on the bale.
(Operator Error). I pull my 5500 with a Oliver 1850 gas, I think that this is probably OVERKILL but I bought it for a
good price. I, like some of the rest of you, wondered if I should bale my own hay or continue to hire it done. If
your experience is anything like mine, GO FOR IT.

If you are happy with your rake, then there is no reason to use a different one. I use a NH 256 bar rake and it does a better job than any other rake I've used. Have fun making your own hay.
