What year(s) did IH make the 45 vibra-shank field cultivator? What tractor did IH recommend to pull one with?

I'm guessing but the 45 field cultivator probably cam out with the 06 tractors in 1963. As for recomended tractor that will vary as the 45 was available in widths from 8' to close to 30' and just about every foot in between. They continued to build the 45 later called the 4500 well into the 1980's.

Just found actual sizes 1968 - 8' to 28.5', 1975 - 8' to 38' and 1975 by then 4500 but same cultivator and same sizes as 75. All 45 over 22' were trailing wing and had hydraulically raised wings. Even the 8' and 12' models could have spring assisted hand raised wings taking them to 20'.

As for tractor size you could order and match a 45 to just about any tractor from 40 to 225 hp. 12' model was just a nice load for a 560 or 656. 1066 handled 26' with ease. You would be quite safe with 5 hp per foot.

One other item I should clarify for you, the 45 cultivator was available in three versions; mounted either 3 point or fast hitch. trailer and trailing wing. The mounted and trailer basically went from 8' to 20' and frame was very close and both used the same manual lift wings. The trailing wing was a massive frame machine and started at 20' and on up.

Yup, I have a 15' ridgid pull type, & 22' manual folding pull type 45. They don't have as much clearance for trash as the newest models, but work just as good otherwise. Tons of them around.

Hugh,

As usual, you're dispensing accurate information, although I fear your expertise may be hampered by a bias as to the color of machinery - LOL.

We're currently in Iowa and headed for Trout Lake (north of Red Lake, Ontario) on Thursday, hoping to deplete the pike, walleye and trout population as much as legally allowed.

Someday we'll get to your neck of the woods. I hope you're doing well.

Stan

Stan: Go prepared, that country has mosquitoes almost as large as military helecopters. The good part is they are not infected with west nile yet. What is your route up there? West or east side of Lake Michigan.

Had a few green machines, and liked every one of them. Had a lot of red machines, not all were likeable. I expect had the volume been the other way, so would the likes and dislikes.
