I drove by a dealer that has one on the lot. They were closed so I couldnt ask any one.
They also had a NH 851 there and some older ones.

What do you know about them? Any thing to look for?
Also what is the average value of these little balers?
Thanks Guys

Hi KellyC,

We had an 846 that my dad bought new in about 1976, traded it on an 847 in about '82 or so (first year they were out and the last year for investment tax credit, when ever that was). It had the NH auto wrap option (worth every penny). Sold it in 1991 with over 50,000 rolls through it, had completely worn throught the floor plates and welded 2 more sets in. Broke a shaft at 48,000, replaced the apron chain 1 time, and about a dozen sets of floor chains (rock play heck on them). Sold it for $4500. My dad got a 650 then. About 1994 I got an 851, good baler, almost no problems (didnt have auto wrap , boo/hiss). A lot heavier built than the 847 but that 5.5 foot wide roll is a terrible size, cant haul doubles and too narrow to use all your deck space on singles. I got the 'religion' and got a 650 a few years later. No comparison between the belts and chains.

Hi, I have a NH 847 with hydraulic wrap that I paid $2500 for at an auction last year. It's pretty much all manuel. I've been told the NH 848 that has air bags makes a tighter bail. Bill

Kelly C.
We have an 851 and our neighbor has an 847. Our 851 as been almost maintenance free except for a floor chain repair. The one we have is manual tie so that's not so greatbut it does a good job for the money. We gave $2500 for it a few years ago and it was in good shape when we bought it. Our neigbors 847 is pretty good as well. I don't know if it has electric or hydraulic tie. If I could I would stay away from the manual tie Just my opinion.
