I am considering changing from little square bales to round bales. My tractor is 50 hp. I see ads saying the M & W baler (model 4500) only requires 40 hp. Sounds like what I need but...? Any comments on the M & W balers?

As the Hay Doc mentioned the M&W is a fixed chamber baler. I am on my third season with mine. I bought it used. It has not given me any trouble. I like the way it is built. For my personel use I like it very much. I pull it with a 55 HP tractor and I can tighten the tension down in some hay and make the tractor work but all in all it pulls easy.

The M&W 4500 can be pulled with a 40 HP tractor when baling dry hay. The 4500 is a fixed chamber baler and requires you to bale only 4x5' bales. You might want to also look at the Vermeer Rebel 5400. The Rebel is a variable chamber baler and has been known to be pulled with a 28 HP Kubota tractor, not recommended by Vermeer.

I USE A CASE IT 8420 ROUND BALER WITH MY KUBOTA 4310,38 PTO HP BALES A NICE BALE 40"wide& 30-54" tall.THE TRACTOR HAS PLENTY OF POWER FOR THIS BALER THAT REQUIRES 30 HP TO OPERATE.
