HS tedder any one using one?

These are the ones that are a reel that spins back wards and throws the hay over the top of the tedder.
I have seen a couple at sales this year and was wondering if they are any good?

It sounds very similar to a machine they used to market in the UK "Lely Cock Pheasant". They are ok but no where near as good as a 'Hay bob' type rotary tedders of today.

We got a Grimm..... ....Paid dearly for it too. I know if my partner didn't like it(He NEVER uses it is) I'd cut it up for scrap! We have an old NI rollbar rake that can also ted and I prefer it to any other rake or tedder I ever used. I broke a gear on it so I am going to put a hydraulic motor on it and it will be ready for another 50 years worth of work.

Those tedders just make a mess. If you need a tedder get a New Holland rotary rake.

WHAT MODEL DO YOU HAVE? I HAVE A 56 BUT I DID NOT KNOW YOU COULD USE IT AS A TEDDER. HOW DO YOU MAKE IT WORK?

I have a model 47, circa early 1950's. On the inside of the main gear box, there is a horizontal control rod projecting out, maybe 6 inches long by an inch thick, with three circumfrential grooves, and a spring-held latch that fits into one of the grooves. You can position the rod so that the latch fits in one of the three grooves. The middle groove is neutral, so that you can transport the rake without the tines spinning. I think all the way in is for reverse spin (ted) and all the way out is for forward spin (rake). Sometimes I have to play with the rake to get the rod to move, either spining the bars by hand a little or moving the rake on the ground.

Let us know if your 56 has the same type of gear box. This rake teds very nicely, just a little flip and fluff. Like TP, I want to keep it running, or find a good replacement, so knowing what other models have the same feature would be helpful.

Anyone know of a source for parts?

ON MY 56 THE POSITIONS ARE DIFFERENT. FORWARD IS NEUTRAL, CENTER IS FOR RAKING, AND ALL THE WAY BACK IS FOR TEDDING. TO GET IT ALL THE WAY BACK I HAD TO PUT A LITTLE PRESSURE ON THE LEVER AND SPIN THE REEL A LITTLE BIT, BUT IT DOES WORK.
