Oliver corn planter question

I tried posting once and it didn't seem to take but if it did I appologize for multiple attempts.
I,m new at this so bear with my ignorance.

I just bought an old Oliver 310 2 row corn planter. The fertilizer drop is offset from the corn seed drop. I would have thought that they would be in line with each other ? Is this normal ?

Just like Wayne says- it is normal to go 2x2- fertilizer is a caustic agent, and should not be with the seed. Proof? Taste it- Planters have been set that way for over 40 years, since it became popular to put fertilizer on with corn planters, instead of broadcasting and incorporating it. When you band it, you are concentrating a relatively large amount in a narrow area, so you do not want it with the seed.

I have my corn planter set up to put the ferterlizer about 2" to the side and about 2" deeper than the corn seed. That placement keeps the ferterlizer from burning the young corn plant. The corn roots soon grow into the ferterlizer when they can handle it. Wayne
